Description

Book My PROMISE TO THE MASTER, Hanshi Frank Grant + Jeff Slutsky, english, 254 pages, 17 x 24 cm. A Comprehensive Analysis of "The Next Step" for Shoshin Nagamine's Matsubayashi-ryu. Frank Grant holds a 10th degree black belt in the Matsubayashi style of Okinawan Shorin-ryu karate. This book, which has been over five years in the making, provides readers a detailed blueprint on how to properly execute the techniques and maximize the effectiveness of those techniques as taught to him by Grand Master Shoshin Nagamine, the creator of the Mastsubayashi-ryu system.  Master Nagamine asked Frank Grant to take his teachings to the next step. With the publication of this book, Hanshi Frank Grant has taken a major step toward that life-long goal. Master Nagamine published his book, The Essence of Okinawan Karate-Do in 1975 which provided readers a pictorial representation of the 18 katas and 7 Yokusoko Kumite.  Hanshi Frank Grant’s book provides the next step by revealing the moves between the pictures in Master Nagamine’s book. Just learning the sequence of moves is only a first step. Executing those techniques more effectively and with increased speed and force is the main focus of My Promise to the Master. Using high-speed photography and detailed written descriptions, each move is presented so that karate practitioners are given the knowledge they need to continually grow and improve their performance. The book also share the rich history of Frank Grant’s numerous training tours with The Master, a detailed glossary and index, plus a picture-by-picture comparison with Nagamine’s book. This book is great resource, not only to those who know the connection between Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu and Motobu-ha Shito-Ryu, but to all martial artists who wish to further their insight into the transition moves within kata.
